DCS Event: “Don’t Forget the Accessories”

Featuring the EOS C500 at the Canon Hollywood Professional Center, Saturday, September 28th, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm, with a EOS C500 demonstration from 9 am – noon.

In this upcoming event to be held on Saturday afternoon, September 28th, at the Canon Hollywood Professional Technology and Support Center in Hollywood, we will see the latest in rigs and accessories demoed on Canon’s Cinema EOS C500 4K Digital Cinema Camera.  There will be an emphasis on solutions being offered to unify the EOS C500 with a variety of 4K recording options.  Presenters from the following manufacturers (in alphabetical order), will include ARRI, Chrosziel, OConnor, Redrock Micro, and Zacuto. This session will also include a special overview presentation on the Canon EOS C500 given by Canon’s Tim Smith.

Prior to our DCS event, on Saturday morning, Canon Live Learning welcomes DCS members to also join Canon expert and Director of Photography, Suny Behar, for a demonstration of the EOS C500 and its workflow from setting up the camera with external recorders to applying LUTs and offloading the files.  This session will prepare attendees for shooting with this extremely versatile camera by familiarizing them with the diversity of recording options for the EOS C500 from acquisition to finish including: System Priorities, Recording Modes, Resolutions and File Output Options.

DCS Event: “What’s New in Desktop Editing”

This event is still in the final planning stages, but we wanted to let you know to expect it. On the evening of Wednesday, December 4th, we will return to Key Code Media’s Burbank headquarters for an event to catch us up on what’s new with NLEs; both the areas of traditional off-line creative editing and for finishing on the desktop, including dealing with 4K. We’ll see what’s new from Avid, Adobe, Apple, and perhaps even some that do not start with the letter “A.” If this subject is of interest, please mark your calendars, keep an eye out for further announcements, and we’ll start taking RSVPs after all the details are confirmed.

Codex Product Training Classes

Codex is holding a full-day, product training class every other Thursday in their Los Angeles office from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The class covers the Alexa XT (when they have the camera in-house), the Codex Onboard S Recorder, and then focuses on the Codex Vault (now also supporting Sony AXSM media.) Cost: Free for Digital Cinema Society members.

Camera Stabilizer Workshop Featuring Sachtler Artemis System

December 5-8, 2013, RED Studios, Los Angeles, CA
This 4-day basic camera stabilizer system workshop is designed to guide attendees through setup of the modular Artemis camera stabilizer system and its use in providing smooth camera moves in cinema and video productions.

The workshop includes a theoretical introduction to basic professional operating, as well as a presentation of the entire system such as configuration of the sled, vest and spring arm with hands-on experience in practical situations. Walking and dolly shots, special operation and walking techniques are taught and practiced under expert supervision. Additionally, the workshop participants will be prepared for the use of related tools like wireless lens controls, etc.

DCS Members invited to Participate in Sony Training at the new Digital Motion Picture Center

DCS members are invited to apply to attend educational sessions to experience new Sony 4K Technologies at the Digital Motion Picture Center located on the Sony Studios lot in Culver City.

An introductory session will be held every Thursday from 9:30AM to 5:30PM. Attendees will have a chance to learn from an intellectual perspective what 4K technology is, train on the operation of the F65 and F55, as well as the opportunity to shoot 4K pictures, process them through a 4K workflow and view the results on a 4K projector.

A second set of classes are also scheduled every Wednesday afternoon from 1PM to 5PM that will involve more in-depth Operational Training on the new F55 and F5 designed for those who have already taken the Introduction to 4K course. This advanced session will cover everything there is to know about the new F cameras including very detailed session on building and configuring the cameras and changing menus, an opportunity for students to shoot “pre-scripted” shots on the set, and a review of the workflow followed by a grading session of the footage that the attendees shoot.

Class sizes are limited and may be backlogged by several weeks, but DCS members in good standing are invited to contact us to be added to the wait list, and as space becomes available you will be contacted by Sony to schedule your session. Worldwide Educational Workshops hosted by the International Colorist Academy
