I love to see competing manufacturers working together to allow their products to provide the most utility for their customers. As the headline states, the LUMIX S5IIX is now compatible with Blackmagic RAW output over HDMI to the Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR. This allows a level of recording not previously available to a Lumix camera. I’ve always been a fan of compressed RAW, and Blackmagic RAW is a wonderful codec that will allow maximum flexibility in post.
Although I hate the name “Video Assist,” the 12G HDR is a capable recording monitor featuring a bright 7″, 1920 x 1200 display with 12G-SDI and HDMI inputs as well as balanced 3-pin mini-XLR inputs with 48V phantom power for audio recording. It also features histogram, waveform, vectorscope, focus peaking, and more. Files are recorded to dual high-speed UHS-II slots using SDXC/HC cards and can also record in Apple ProRes (HQ, 422, LT, Proxy) or DNxHD and DNxHR codecs. Two great products working together…congratulations to both companies.
