Digital Cinema Society Privacy Policy

privacy policy, as of 05/23/2018

The Digital Cinema Society (DCS) is committed to protecting the privacy of its members. DCS recognizes the interest of its members in the confidentiality of their personal information. DCS only maintains personal information that is relevant to DCS activities and seeks to maintain accurate, complete, and timely information. DCS is incorporated in the United States of America (US) and is subject to US legislative requirements around data protection. For the purposes of European data protection laws, DCS is the data controller of member personal information.  The controller is Charlene Mathers, DCS Executive Director and can be contacted by email at Charlene@digitalcinemasociety.org.

The security of personal information is important to DCS. DCS maintains all personal information with technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect against loss, unauthorized access, destruction, misuse, modification, and improper disclosure. No computer system or information can ever be fully protected against every possible hazard. DCS provides reasonable and appropriate security controls to protect personal information against foreseeable hazards.

DCS maintains member databases that contain mailing and member profile information. The information in these databases is used by authorized DCS  staff members to email newsletters, announcements, renewal notices, respond to member inquiries, and help us improve our offerings.  Member records are maintained as long as an individual is a DCS member and for at least ten years following a membership lapse.

All personal information contained in DCS membership and registration databases is treated as confidential and will be used only for the purposes stated in this policy, except where otherwise required by law.

Just like any other record keeper, DCS may be required to disclose personal information in response to valid legal process. This includes a search warrant, subpoena, or court order. Disclosures may also be appropriate to protect DCS’ legal rights or during emergencies if physical safety is believed to be at risk. These disclosures are possible although unlikely.

DCS members may access the information contained in their membership records and correct and update their member profile and mailing information by logging in to www.Digitalcinemasociety.org and selecting manage profile. Individuals in Europe also have certain data privacy rights which may be subject to limitations and/or restrictions. These rights include the right to: (i) request access to and rectification and erasure of their personal information; (ii) obtain restriction of processing or to object to processing of their personal information; and (iii) ask for a copy of their personal information to be provided to them, or a third party in a digital format. Individuals in Europe also have the right to lodge a complaint about the processing of their personal information with their local data protection authority.

When you are located in Europe, personal information collected from you, including via the DCS Website, will be transferred to recipients in countries located outside Europe, (including the United States where this Website is hosted) which do not provide a similar or adequate level of protection to that provided by countries in Europe. You hereby expressly consent to the transfer of your personal information to recipients, as described in this Privacy Policy, which are located outside of Europe .

In order to update your postal tolerance or to exercise one of your rights, you will need to contact DCS’ Member Services Department by phone: +1.818.762.2214 or email: charlene@digitalcinemasociety.org.

EMAIL POLICIES

DCS does not sell or rent email addresses of its members to any outside party.
