The Digital Cinema Society (DCS) is committed to protecting the privacy of its members. DCS recognizes the interest of its members in the confidentiality of their personal information. DCS only maintains personal information that is relevant to DCS activities and seeks to maintain accurate, complete, and timely information. DCS is incorporated in the United States of America (US) and is subject to US legislative requirements around data protection. For the purposes of European data protection laws, DCS is the data controller of member personal information. The controller is Charlene Mathers, DCS Executive Director and can be contacted by email at Charlene@digitalcinemasociety.org.
The security of personal information is important to DCS. DCS maintains all personal information with technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect against loss, unauthorized access, destruction, misuse, modification, and improper disclosure. No computer system or information can ever be fully protected against every possible hazard. DCS provides reasonable and appropriate security controls to protect personal information against foreseeable hazards.
DCS maintains member databases that contain mailing and member profile information. The information in these databases is used by authorized DCS staff members to email newsletters, announcements, renewal notices, respond to member inquiries, and help us improve our offerings. Member records are maintained as long as an individual is a DCS member and for at least ten years following a membership lapse.
All personal information contained in DCS membership and registration databases is treated as confidential and will be used only for the purposes stated in this policy, except where otherwise required by law.
Just like any other record keeper, DCS may be required to disclose personal information in response to valid legal process. This includes a search warrant, subpoena, or court order. Disclosures may also be appropriate to protect DCS’ legal rights or during emergencies if physical safety is believed to be at risk. These disclosures are possible although unlikely.
DCS members may access the information contained in their membership records and correct and update their member profile and mailing information by logging in to www.Digitalcinemasociety.org and selecting manage profile. Individuals in Europe also have certain data privacy rights which may be subject to limitations and/or restrictions. These rights include the right to: (i) request access to and rectification and erasure of their personal information; (ii) obtain restriction of processing or to object to processing of their personal information; and (iii) ask for a copy of their personal information to be provided to them, or a third party in a digital format. Individuals in Europe also have the right to lodge a complaint about the processing of their personal information with their local data protection authority.
In order to update your postal tolerance or to exercise one of your rights, you will need to contact DCS’ Member Services Department by phone: +1.818.762.2214 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
DCS does not sell or rent email addresses of its members to any outside party.
Occasionally, at Industry events, DCS sponsor companies/vendors will request the email addresses of event attendees for advertising purposes. DCS will only share your name and email address with these sponsors/vendors after receiving your explicit permission to do so.
DCS uses email addresses to send the following:
1. The DCS Newsletter, Local Industry Events Updates, Occasional invitations to participate in industry surveys, and Screening/Event Invitations.
2. Email messaging that is part of a program for which the member has registered (e.g. DCS Lighting Expo).
3. Email distribution lists targeted at DCS groups (e.g. by region, local group, etc.). Only DCS headquarters staff can create and support “DCS.org” email distribution lists.
All members have the ability to opt-in or out of email communications through their membership profile, through Constant Contact, or by contacting DCS’ Member Services Department by phone: +1.818.762.2214 or email: Charlene@digitalcinemasociety.org
