In a continuation of the consolidation trend of motion picture lighting manufacturers, the DADCO Group has announced that it has acquired certain intellectual property and operational assets of RatPac Controls. RatPac was founded in 2011 by Hollywood rigging gaffer (RCLT) and IATSE Local 728 Studio Electrical Lighting Technician, Craig Brink, bringing hands-on experience to power and data distribution for large-scale motion picture productions. His deep industry knowledge, combined with the company’s close relationships with leading Gaffers (CLT), Rigging Gaffers (RCLT), Lighting Console Programmers (LCP), DMX and network technicians, as well as Directors of Photography, enabled RatPac to develop and manufacture products that permanently changed how power and data are distributed on sound stages and on location. The industry’s transition from legacy dimming systems to distributed dimming and switching was driven in large part by RatPac dimmers and they also pioneered on-set wireless lighting control with its CRMX®-based Cintenna®, AKS, and Satellite products, now found on stages and productions worldwide.

It is comforting for the set lighting community to know that the great technology developed by RatPac will be in the good hands of Hans Lau, currently Director of Change Management at DADCO, who will lead the integration of RatPac’s acquired assets. Hans previously served as CEO of FilmGear North America and was a co-founder of LumenRadio, the pioneer of CRMX wireless technology. DADCO will continue to offer a select range of RatPac and Cintenna products from Van Nuys, California, along with repair services and replacement parts, ensuring uninterrupted support for existing users and new opportunities ahead.
