In the run-up to NAB Canon has announced several new updates across their cinema, broadcast and PTZ product lines and that their EOS R5 C is now Netflix approved.

Highlights Include:

  • New firmware updates to the Cinema EOS Camera lineup, including the EOS R5 C, EOS C70, EOS C500 Mark II, and EOS C300 Mark III. Putting customer needs first, Canon is rolling out a variety of updates that help with auto focus, support for new cinema lenses, and improved operability.
  • Two new additions to the company’s 8K Flex Zoom Cinema Lens Series—the CN-E14-35mm T1.7 and the CN-E31.5-95mm T1.7 Super 35mm format lenses, ideal for shooting movies, television dramas, commercials, and more.
  • The “Add-On Applications System” for PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) remote cameras will be made available for the CR-N300, CR-N500, and CR-X300. Available through a future firmware update, the Add-On Applications System will provide access to new paid video production features such as auto tracking and auto loop.
  • Canon is also developing an ultra-high-sensitivity interchangeable-lens camera (ILC) equipped with SPAD Sensor, supporting precise monitoring through clear color image capture of subjects several miles away, even in darkness.
  • Canon EOS R5 C Now Approved for Netflix Productions

Canon’s EOS R5 C has been added to Netflix’s list of approved cameras. This allows filmmakers to use Canon’s full-featured, hybrid full-frame mirrorless camera for Netflix productions.  Version firmware elevates the overall image quality and camera operability for content captured by filmmakers and creators using the EOS R5 C.  The EOS R5 C approval brings the number of Canon Cinema EOS camera models approved for use on Netflix productions to eight.  Canon Cinema EOS camera models on the Netflix approved camera list include:
