While we have been busy doing a “DCS Road Test” with the new Blackmagic URSA 12K LF, (soon to be published,) Blackmagic has been creating impressive samples with the even newer URSA Cine 17K 65 digital film camera. Cinematographer Dylan Rucker put the URSA Cine 17K 65 through its paces shooting The Ranch, while French filmmaker Florent Piovesan took the camera on location in challenging environments shooting Iceland.

The two projects’ edits, BTS and Blackmagic RAW clips are also all available to download from the Blackmagic Design Gallery page: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicursacine/gallery  (Of note, DaVinci Resolve 19.1.4 is needed to work with the 17K and 8K RAW files.)

New Blackmagic Design Software:

Blackmagic Camera 9.3 update is now available which adds support for the new Blackmagic URSA Cine 17K 65. When designing the URSA Cine models, Blackmagic Design came to the realization that the massive 65mm image sensor would need seamless integration into high end workflows, hence the new Camera update, as well as an update to DaVinci Resolve 19.1.4. In addition to adding support for the URSA Cine 17K 65, the Blackmagic Camera 9.3 update adds support for remotely controlling Blackmagic URSA Cine cameras using Blackmagic Camera for iOS. This means that you are able to mount a Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K in a location that’s not easily accessible, and be able to monitor and control settings like focus, white balance, frame rate or shutter angle remotely using a phone or iPad. It also enables you to start and stop recording on a connected URSA Cine camera and use it as part of a multi camera shoot.

Meanwhile DaVinci Resolve 19.1.4 updates include support for Blackmagic RAW SDK 4.5, Apple ProRes encode support on Windows and Linux, support for Samsung Log LUTs, and many general performance and stability improvements.
