There is always a lot of attention paid to new cameras and lenses but there are many additional components necessary to assemble a successful Digital Cinema acquisition package. Equipment buyers sometimes put all their resources into the camera, and try to skimp on the proper support and accessories, which can greatly diminish the utility of their package. So in an effort to highlight these unsung heroes, lets focus on a few of the Camera Support and Accessories manufacturers we covered at NAB 2017.
Cartoni: https://vimeo.com/216219762
Steve Manios of Manios Digital describes updates to the Cartoni Lamda 25 Dutch and 3-Axis head as well as the new Cartoni SDS “Smart Deployment Series” tripod system.
MYT Works: https://vimeo.com/215057361
Camera support innovator, Etienne Sauret of MYT Works describes a host of new products and features including the “MYT Glide” camera slider system, the “Rover Dolly”, a lightweight travel dolly with foam wheels that can work on a wide range of surfaces, as well as the “Galaxy” and “Constellation” lines of Skater Dollies and the fluid-less friction-based “Velvet” and “Velour” nodal tripod heads.
Anton/Bauer: https://vimeo.com/214857709
Anton Bauer’s Andrew Butler introduces the “LPD Discharger”, a tool to help filmmakers comply with air travel restrictions by managing the amount of allowable charge left on Lithium Ion batteries when they are carried as baggage. He also describes how they are keeping with powering all the new cameras by creating new battery brackets.
Redrock Micro: https://vimeo.com/215058480
Redrock Micro’s Brian Valente describes several new products and updates including the new “SLS,” a Smaller, Lighter, Stronger torque motor designed especially for drones and gimbals and their Atlas motor which works with their new Eclipse and Halo systems for full wired or wireless FIZ control and focus tracking via the “Navigator” command module. Brian also tells us about a new partnership with SmallHD to display complete focus, iris, and zoom metadata on SmallHD monitors, and a new integrated metadata system known as “Meta-Tags” to read and write information specifically assignable to each individual lens.
Schneider Optics: https://vimeo.com/214701822
Niki Mustain from Schneider Optics describes the “RHOdium FSND,” a new line of full spectrum neutral density filters designed to work with most current Digital Cinema cameras. She also demos the soon to be released “Radiant Soft” diffusion which cuts down on highlight blooming while softening skin tones, new variable and combination polarizing ND filters, as well as Shift Tilt adapter that allows for adjustments on the fly while shooting via a traditional follow focus type of mechanism, and of course their full line of Full Frame Cine-Xenar lenses.
Manfrotto: https://vimeo.com/214858812
James Mathers interviews Manfrotto‘s Sofia Braccio as she details the many innovations of their new Manfrotto Nitrotech fluid head, which delivers continuous counterbalance via a unique piston mechanism.
Don’t worry if you didn’t make the trip to Las Vegas, or even if you did, but couldn’t find the time to see everything you wanted at the show, the Digital Cinema Society has you covered. James Mathers and the team from DCS recorded comprehensive coverage of the latest motion picture technology, which is now available for streaming.
