Similar to how DCS was formed over 25 years ago, in the early days of electronic capture of motion pictures, a group of concerned industry professionals have now joined forces to try and insure that AI technology will be adopted in a way that respects the creative community. Just as the Digital Cinema Society never advocated for digital technology over film, these folks are neither for nor against AI technology. Rather, they hope to leverage their collective power to guide the development of this technology in the entertainment industry.

Founders of this grass-roots effort include a wide variety of notable industry pros such as the Oscar winning filmmaker of Everything Everywhere All at Once Daniel Kwan, producer and former Academy president Janet Yang, as well as famous actors including Natasha Lyonne and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Jim Geduldick, a longtime DCS member, is a Cinematographer, VFX and Virtual Production expert who serves on the technical side.

They also have a growing list who have signed on at the CCAI homepage to show their support including Cate Blanchett, Aaron Sorkin, Rian Johnson, and Kristen Stewart. The group hopes that by joining forces they can foster the informed integration of the technology while respecting all the various interests including business, labor, political, and especially the creative community while insuring ethical and artistic protections when AI is deployed.

Goals include transparency, consent, and compensation for content, job protection and transition plans for those impacted by employment reductions, the creation of guardrails against misuse including deepfakes, and perhaps most importantly, safeguarding human input into the creative process. They believe that storytelling is not just entertainment, but also how we transmit values, empathy, and meaning.

This is all iterated in more detail on their landing page. We at DCS encourage our members to visit their website and find out more. Please consider adding your name to the growing list of supporters:
