At a gala launch event held at the Academy Museum just prior to the opening of Cine Gear Expo, SIGMA introduced their new Aizu Prime Line. The Aizu series is currently made up of eight large-format cine primes with each lens having a T-stop of T1.3. Focal lengths now include a 25mm, 27mm, 32mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, and 75mm with four additional lenses in development stretching to 12 lenses spanning 18mm to 125mm. Their name Aizu is derived from the city of Aizu, Japan, where every Sigma lens is produced.
The Aizu Primes are designed to deliver excellent sharpness without the extremely crisp look for a more nuanced and organic feel that is highly desirable for visual narrative storytelling. They provide coverage for large formats such as full frame, ARRI ALEXA LF Open Gate, and VistaVision. The Aizu Primes feature ZEISS eXtended Data to provide real-time output of distortion and vignetting information for more efficient image correction, critical in compositing workflows. All eight of the lenses introduced weigh under 2kg (4.4lbs) each and share a 95mm front diameter, 270-degree focus ring rotation, and 70-degree iris ring rotation, for consistent handling from one lens to the next.
The first Eight lenses in the series are available for preorder now in both PL and Sony E-mount. For more information, please visit: https://www.sigmaphoto.com/cine/aizu-primes
